Absolutely delightful… the perfect mix of spicy, sweet, and tart. Really, it’s all about the ginger simple syrup (incredibly easy to make, I promise) and the resulting pieces of candied ginger, which make for a wonderful garnish and also snack. This was another very early cocktail recipe and it is SO GOOD.

Fresh passion fruits can be hard to find (Whole Foods has them, some of the time) but if you can find them and if you can make this, it is absolutely worth the extra effort. This was one of the first cocktail recipes I ever made for the blog and wow is it delicious! I had been in Tulum on vacation and these were served everywhere and I just fell in love. Also, while I have you… I am a broken record but these are the best margarita salts ever. They are all so delicious and special, each in their own ways. But I also love a fancier margarita too, and that is where these recipes can come in. You many also want to include salt on the rim of your margarita. While añejo is darker, aged over a year and is more expensive. Joven is lighter, aged less than reposado and cheaper. Two other types of tequila are joven and añejo. Reposado is often considered the perfect tequila for margaritas. What type of tequila should you use? I used a reposado tequila which is aged in a barrel 2 months to just under a year. Alternatively, you can triple or quadruple the recipe in a blender and add ice to have a frozen margarita as well. Shake or stir these ingredients together and then add ice (on the rocks). While a classic margarita is quite easy on its own, I wanted to simplify the recipe even further with an easy to remember 2-1-1 ratio. To make this classic margarita you’ll need tequila, lime juice and orange liqueur (also known as triple sec).
